30 Jan 2010I have a VW Golf 1.6 Mk4 2002. My cigarette fuse blow up so i changed it but the cigarette lighter socket is stll not working. I have 2 cigarette lighter sockets…one in the front and another in the boot of my car. The one in the boot works but not the one in the front. I tried changing the cigarette lighter socket but it still does not work.
Anyone has any ideas what may be wrong?
Thanks

Check the wiring as you may have melted the insulation and caused a short.

it could be that the two cigarette lighters work on seperate fuese, i know on my saxo the cigarette lighter is on the same fuse as the rear window heater, i fink or somethin like that. failing that, cigarette lighter knakerd!

Either Fuse which you can find in a panel between door and dash,of next to glove box. Or the thing you are trying to use takes to much power.

You may have the wrong Type of fuses, some cars have a certain type of fuse needed. Go to a VW dealer and ask for the fuse.

When the fuse blew up it may have burnt the wiring. Maybe a bad ground also. I would start with checking the ground wire then I would replace the wiring.

One socket is a cigarette lighter.
The other is a socket hook-up, for your computer,
or CD.

if the fuse blew it means there was a short circuit in its wiring….you may have replaced the fuse but the wiring may be burned through as well……check for voltage with a meter

It sounds like you have melted the wire too

sounds like the wire has melted too so the current isn’t reaching the socket
