you should always replace wires with plugs, they get pulled apart

You don’t say what motor you have in the truck, I will think its a 4 or 6. There are many things that could be wrong without knowing the history or age of the truck. Here are a few ideas.
Bad Plug wires and wrong firing order. Check the firing order of the plug wires.
Timing is off. Or distributor is bad itself.
Does this have a distributor cap, is it cracked or dirty or just old, without know the year of the truck hard to say. Also if it does have a cap it has a rotor also.
Lousy gas, you don’t mention if this truck sat a lot. Maybe it has condensation in the tank and bringing it up through the fuel pump. Try running gas additives or a higher octane gas.
Also new fuel filter?

Did you replace the plug wires?
It could be an internal problem with the engine. Do a compression test (wet and dry) to see if there is a problem!
