Getting fire to all cyls., fuel pump is running, pumping fuel out of fuel filter but will not start. Tried to self diagnose ECU but battery had been removed so I came up with code 55, Normal (nothing wrong). I know I would need to have it running to retrieve actual, accurate codes. What can be wrong? fuel pressure reg, injectors, distributor, ECU, wiring between distributor & ECU ??????? I should mention the truck is a 4 cyl 4×4 and also has been sitting for over a year. any help, Ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered the starter at all. A corroded Solenoid. Bad fuel perhaps, you said it’s been sittin’ for a year.

Does it act like it wants to run when fuel is introduced to the throttle chamber under the air cleaner? Sitting for over a year? Probably because it won’t start. Next test are the fuel injectors squirting? No the engine does not need to run for codes to be flashed red and green. Mode 3 is where the codes live, other modes are switch tests and O2 sensor tests. Those D-22 trucks are just about bullet proof look along the distributor some times the wires rub on the A/C metal line and short the ECM cam posistion signal.

there are some fusible links on the positive battery cable that send power to the fuel injectors. You can test both end of the fusible links for power and also you can check the connector on one of the fuel injector for battery voltages. Remember the fuel injector should always have battery voltages to one side of it the computer control the ground pulse withe.

I wonder. Could it have jumped time? To check, Remove
the No # 1. spark plug. make sure the No # 1 plug is
ready to fire. With a slim screwdriver down into the spark
plug hole make sure the piston is all the way up. You can
tell if its all the way up by moving the fan back and forth. If it
has a fan clutch or the built slips then you need to turn it buy
the main pulley wheel on the crank. If you cant get it to fire at
the same time the piston is all the way up the timing chain
( or belt ) will need to be replaced . There are marks that
must be lined up or you will have the same problem as now.
If its not the timing I would like to know. Good luck.

Have you made sure that fuel is at the injectors? Then you would know which way the problem is. If you have fuel at the injectors, then your problem is before them. If fuel is reaching the injectors, then your injectors are the problem.
