13 Dec 2009I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced the manifold gaskets as well as the fuel injectors on a 1989 Corvette L98 engine? After spending several hours on it we were finally able to remove it, but it was more than I had anticipated. I worked on many older engines (60s – 70s) and lately a just a few Toyota and Nissan engines, but this one is a real bear. What I am really trying to say is that getting to some of the torx screws on the intakes is close to near impossible especially when I consider they have to be properly torqued when replaced. Just waiting now for new parts to arrive. Any suggestions how to make this job a bit easier maybe with a few special tools? Any good specialty tool websites out there? Wasn’t able to come across anything that seemed worthwhile at least to me.

They are not any fun!! I start the bolts for the lower tubes, then start the upper plenum bolts, before torquing then down. I do the drivers side first, seems to me to be easier!! Good luck!!

on the lower plenium bolts, pleae install the inner first then the others loosely, then tighten hard in the order stated. Dont forget to install the distributor before you put the upper plenium on.The best thing to do is to get a manual that covers that year.Be sure to use new bolts or clean the threads of the intake monifold bolts and use some liquid teflon to lube the threads before installing them. good luck
